Windows 8 brings a new user interface : Metro User Interface. The new user interface comes with new look, new features. A new feature of this Metro UI is that it shows all installed applications in tiles. Every tile can be either small or large, though they have same height, they can have different width. If you don’t want to keep the default tile size, then you can customise this tile size just by one click. It also helps to redesign the appearance sequence of all tiles. This tutorial will guide you to change the default width of these tiles.

1. Press the Window button to go to the Start menu.

2. Choose the tile, of which you want to change the width, i.e., make it small if it is large or make it large if it is small. Now right click on that tile. Now you can see a tick sign in the right corner of that tile. You can also see a bar in the bottom of the Metro UI.
As I have chosen Mail and want to make it small, so in the right of the bottom bar, i click on Smaller.

3. Now you can see that the tile size of the Mail tile has been made smaller.

4. If you want to make the tile larger, then in the bottom bar, you will see Larger in the place of Smaller.
