Buying the perfect suit is an investment that will pay handsome dividends in years to come. While seasonal trends in cut, colour and fabrics are worth considering there are many other elements that go into creating a wardrobe mix that will ensure you are perfectly suited for every occasion.
How many buttons should your suit have? For many men this is about personal preference, but if you do want to be right on-trend then the single-button jacket is the way to go for 2011/2012. At most, your jacket should have two buttons. One caveat applies though: one button suits may be very fashionable, but they do tend to make you look shorter because they are usually situated closer to the waist than the neck, so you may have to sacrifice fashion if you are on the short or stocky side.
 The two-button suit jacket is a perfect compromise – it conveys height, slims the waist and fits neatly into both the fashion and classic categories. Three button suits were the look of the 90s and if you still own one, then make sure you do up only the middle button. Of course, like everything in fashion, three-button suits are making a comeback and even the haute couture designers include them in their ranges for those who are diehard three-button loyalists.
